Elder Abuse / Neglect

Elder Abuse / Neglect

When persons over the age of 65 or dependent adults are physically injured through reckless or intentional conduct, or when they are taken advantage of financially, they may have a claim for elder abuse or neglect.

A common situation that may give rise to a claim for physical neglect of an elder is inattention by a skilled nursing facility that leads to the development of pressure sores, to malnutrition, or to death.  Alternatively, such claims may qualify as professional negligence.

Financial elder neglect may arise when family members or acquaintances take an elderly person's money or other property.  It can also arise in the context of commercial transactions, such as inappropriate loans or investments.

Our elders are a vulnerable section of our society.  They need and deserve our protection.  Call us for a consultation about whether the rights of a loved one have been violated.
